Proyecto Arqueológico Río Pesquero was
initiated in the summer of 2005 (funded by the Heinz Latin American Archaeology
Grant Program) and is aimed at investigating the largely unknown south-eastern
Olmec zone. The 2005 research was the first-stage in a multi-stage survey and
excavation research project with a long-term of collecting data that will
provide for inferences on the development and organization of the region’s
Middle Formative period (ca. 900-500 B.C.) political, economic, and social
systems.
