The goal of this society is to promote the awareness of current, relevant, innovative anthropology related articles. Articles are taken from, but not limited to professional journals, periodicals, newspapers as well as popular magazines. A handful of articles are picked, displayed, and updated every month. Also a monthly discussion group on article topics (over coffee at a local café) for interested students will be started soon.
The articles linked on this webpage cover the four subfields of anthropology: bio-cultural, cultural, linguistics, and archaeology. Additionally, articles with particular focuses on interdisciplinary issues, medical anthropology, applied anthropology, primate studies, and advocacy (international development, cultural preservation, environmental causes, etc) will be included.
This society is a recent addition to the department so student participation of any kind is much appreciated. Ideas on how to make the organization better are encouraged. Most importantly any contribution of found articles that can be displayed next month on anthropology topics that are significant to students is graciously accepted. Any student interested in anthropology can be a member. If you would like to become a member or have an idea or article please send it to the email address below.

Potential critical questions for group discussions:
- What does this article say about humanity? - What is the theoretical and methodological used (if any) and is this useful in confirming what the piece is trying to prove/convey. - How does the writing style impact the tone of the piece? - Why was this article presented in this particular journal/newspaper/magazine? - How does article represent the academic (anthropology)/journalism community? - How is the content presented in this article pertinent to the future of anthropology? |
